Waters near Belle Isle searched after report of body
Coast Guard officials spent hours Thursday evening searching the waters around Belle Isle in Detroit after a report of a possible body spotted in the water.
The Coast Guard was called about 6:30 p.m. after a swimmer near the island’s beach area reported having spotted “something in the water which resembled a person,” an officer said.
Coast Guard helicopters joined the search, and a dive team with Detroit police also assisted. Michigan Department of Natural Resources personnel also were on hand.
The Coast Guard did not have any reports Thursday night of swimmers missing at Belle Isle, an officer said.
Officials continued searching after 9 p.m.
