Small fire put out at Detroit’s Crowne Plaza
Detroit — Firefighters battled a small vehicle fire inside in the parking area of the Crowne Plaza hotel early Monday morning.
Crowne Plaza General Manager Joe Frasca spoke with a handful of guests gathered in the lobby near Jefferson Avenue, where a small amount of smoke could be seen from the garage below.
"We had a small vehicle fire, right inside the garage," he said. "It's out."
The fire ignited at the hotel located at 2 Washington Boulevard around 6 a.m., Frasca said. The building's fire alarms went off and were followed by a public announcement notifying guests there was no need for an evacuation.
Fire officials determined the vehicle fire posed no risk to the rest of the building, Frasca said.
A sergeant on the scene initially declined to comment as smoke billowed from the garage at Larned and Shelby, citing the ongoing firefighting efforts.
