1 dead, 1 hurt in east Detroit drive-by shooting
One person was killed and another critically injured Thursday after a drive-by shooting on Detroit’s east side, police said.
A 51-year-old woman was outside talking to a man driving a silver Chevrolet Equinox in the 12100 block of Elmdale about 2:20 p.m. when another vehicle “drove by firing shots, striking both victims,” said Sgt. Cassandra Lewis, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, identified as a man in his late 30s, was shot 10 times but tried to chase the suspected shooters several blocks, Lewis said. He was listed in critical condition Thursday night at a local hospital.
Authorities did not release descriptions of the vehicle involved or possible suspects. An investigation is ongoing.
