Agencies hold mock crash landing at Detroit airport
Detroit — City Airport on Tuesday hosted a mock aircraft crash landing drill involving several city departments, officials said.
The training exercise at the Coleman A. Young International Airport brought together first responders from city departments, including fire, police, Homeland Security & Emergency Management, EMS, Emergency Communications Division, Wayne County Medical Examiner and Region 2 South Healthcare Coalition. Airport personnel also participated.
First responders used a live crash burn simulator at the airport to mimic an emergency situation requiring fire suppression, life safety, property conservation and evidence collection and recovery.
The drill is scheduled to began with an emergency dispatch, officials said. Crews were expected to respond within 4-8 minutes.
City Airport is located at 11499 Conner St. in Detroit.
