Detroit — A 28-year-old man was charged Tuesday in connection with a deadly hit-and-run last week that left a Detroit woman dead.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged a resident of Detroit in the Aug. 17 incident at 10:56 p.m. in the 7600 block of Greenview near Tireman and the Southfield Freeway.

The driver is accused of speeding north on Greenview in a friend’s car when he struck a woman who was standing on the street near the driver’s door of her car. The impact threw the woman more than 30 feet.

Police said the 27-year-old victim was trying to retrieve items from her vehicle when she was struck by a silver Chevrolet Impala. She died at the hospital.

Police completed their investigation into the crash Monday and arrested the man. He has been charged with several counts, including reckless driving causing death, failure to stop and driving on a suspended license and was expected to be arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court in Detroit.
