Detroit Goodfellows to honor Christopher Ilitch with annual award
Christopher Ilitch, president and CEO of Ilitch Holdings Inc., has been chosen for the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year award.
The chairman of Ilitch Charities will be honored at the Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit 26th annual Tribute Breakfast at 8 a.m. Oct. 9 at Cobo Center, the non-profit’s leaders announced.
Ilitch’s parents, Mike and Marian Ilitch, the founders of the Little Caesar’s pizza chain, were given the same honor in 1992.
“As a second-generation leader with earned respect, Christopher Ilitch is continuing the positive impact of his parents,” said Nancy Foran, president of the Detroit Goodfellows.
Ilitch Charities focuses on human services, community development, education and recreation and includes the Detroit Tigers Foundation, Ilitch Cos. and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation.
Tickets for the breakfast are $150 each or $1,500 for a table of 10. There are also $5,000 Santa Circle tables available and corporate sponsorships.
Revenue raised at the benefit event will go toward the Detroit Goodfellows’ fund raising goal of $1.1 million, which will help provide 34,000 holiday gift packages containing clothing, books, candy and toys for needy children in Detroit, Highland Park, Harper Woods, River Rouge and Hamtramck.
