Man arrested in fatal stabbing of girlfriend in Detroit

Police have arrested a 50-year-old man suspected of fatally stabbing his girlfriend Thursday morning and injuring her daughter.

The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. in the 19900 block of Helen. According to police, officers responded to a call of a cutting in progress and arrived at the home to find a 43-year-old woman unconscious with multiple lacerations. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers learned that a second victim, the woman’s 22-year-old daughter, was at a local hospital being treated for injuries.

“Information we have received through the investigation is that the 43-year-old victim was wanting to leave the relationship she had with the suspect,” police said in a statement. “A fight ensued, at which time it is alleged he physically attacked both victims with a knife causing her death and injuring her daughter.”

Police identified and arrested the suspect, a 50-year-old man, within six hours of the incident. He was being held at the Detroit Detention Center awaiting charges.
