A Detroit man was killed Saturday night when an assailant shot into a car in which he was sitting with two young children at a gas station on the city’s east side.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the station at the corner of East Vernor and Mount Elliott Street.

Police did not identify the man. They said two young children in the backseat were not injured.

The man was reaching into the backseat when he was shot, WDIV (Channel 4) reported.

Police said the incident is under investigation; there were no arrests.
