Detroit — A 30-year-old Detroit man is in custody Monday after leading police on a chase in the early morning hours on the city’s west side.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2002 Chevrolet for defective equipment around 1:40 a.m. in the area of southbound Livernois and Michigan.

The driver refused to stop and drove at a high rate of speed. During the chase, the driver threw several items from the vehicle, police said. He eventually crashed into a building at the intersection of Davison and 14th.

There were no injuries.

The driver ran from the scene and a Michigan State Police canine unit tracked him to an abandoned house. The man was taken into custody at 3:15 a.m.

The driver is lodged in the Detroit Detention Center pending the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office review of the case.
