Detroit — City officials on Thursday are expected to detail a new partnership with Detroit Public Schools that will train high school students as firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

Mayor Mike Duggan, the city’s Fire Department and officials with Detroit Public Schools are set to hold a news conference at Cody High School to formally announce the plan.

The effort would allow students to become fully certified by the time they graduate, making them immediately eligible for employment with the city’s Fire Department or other area fire agencies.
