Arrest made in carjacking of two elderly women at MotorCity Casino
A man believed to be responsible for the carjacking, robbing and kidnapping of two elderly women at Motor City Casino parking garage was arrested on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The arrest comes after an investigation between the Detroit Police Department and Michigan State Police.
Authorities were able to find the suspect at his workplace, and officers from the Detroit Police Department's Commercial Auto Theft Unit arrested him around 3:30 p.m.
The suspect, armed with has a weapon, allegedly approached two women, ages 72 and 68, on Thursday at 5:30 a.m. Police said he forced them into their vehicle and they drove from the casino for a short distance and he told them to get out of the vehicle.
The women were abandoned on the city’s west side after the suspect escaped in their red PT Cruiser with an undisclosed amount of money and personal property. The women were not injured and a good Samaritan helped them to safety.
In a press release, police said Saturday that the arrest is an example of “how everyone working together and diligent police work can result in getting criminals off the streets of Detroit.”
