The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is offering swim lessons for more than 200 Detroit young people with special needs, the result of a donation announced Friday from the Sam Bernstein Law Firm.

Through the Y’s “Detroit Swims” program, 216 children and young adults will participate in eight weeks of swimming lessons at the Boll Family YMCA, 1401 Broadway St.

Through CBS EcoMedia’s WellnessAd program, the Bernstein law firm is contributing toward swim instructors, lifeguards, transportation, lifejackets and water toys for participants. The lesssons will be offered between now and April.

Mark Bernstein, the firm’s president and managing partner, spoke to a group of young people before they began lessons at the Boll facility Friday.
