Detroit man charged in shooting on city’s west side

A Detroit man faces arraignment Wednesday on charges in connection with a fatal shooting on the city’s west side.

Robert Gardner, 24, is accused of fatally shooting 34-year-old Keon Rooks around 2:35 a.m. Sept. 9 in the 11600 block of Stout.

Gardner allegedly shot Rooks multiple times with a handgun. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Detroit medics.

Gardner has been charged with open murder, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm. Gardner is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court on the charges.

No motive has been given yet for the shooting.
