Volunteer Detroit coach charged with sex with teen student
A volunteer coach for Detroit’s Henry Ford High School’s basketball team has been charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a 15-year-old female student, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.
Kevin Orr-Mathews, 25, of Detroit was charged in an alleged Sept. 19 incident involving the girl. The girl was not a member of the school’s basketball team at the time, Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. According to the prosecutor’s office, Orr-Mathews drove his car to the girl’s home in the 18000 block of Greenlawn around 3 a.m. and had inappropriate sexual contact with her in his car.
According to the prosecutor, Orr-Mathews and the girl began communicating through text messages last month.
He has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which could land him in prison for life, and third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Orr-Matthews is expected to be arraigned on the charges this afternoon in 36th District Court.
