Detroit police chase ends with arrest at Oakland Mall
Detroit — What started as a shooting in Detroit evolved into a police chase that ended peacefully in a suburban mall parking lot early Friday afternoon.
According to police, the chase began shortly after noon after a non-fatal shooting in the 1200 block of Selden in Detroit.
Driving a black Avalanche-type vehicle, the male suspect headed northbound on Interstate 75 and was trailed by at least 10 police vehicles with sirens and flashing lights.
While the suspect definitely refused to stop for police, media video from a helicopter showed the driver avoiding other vehicles, carefully changing lanes and maintaining a normal speed.
The chase ended at about 12:30 p.m. when the vehicle stopped in the parking lot of Oakland Mall at 14 Mile and I-75. The man offered no resistance as he was pulled from his car and surrounded by at least 20 officers.
The case remains under investigation.
