A driver died Thursday after another motorist trying to flee officers on Detroit’s west side collided with him, police said.

Police were trying to pull over a orange-and-black Dodge Charger around 8 a.m. when the 27-year-old driver sped off, Officer Shanelle Williams said.

The Dodge struck a 2008 Lincoln near Greenfield and Elmira then hit a pole, she said.

The Lincoln driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators did not release his name or age.

The driver of the Charger was arrested. Broadcast reports suggested he had a criminal history, but police couldn’t confirm his status Thursday night.
