Woman found dead in car on Detroit’s west side ID’d
Detroit — Officials have released the name of a 62-year-old woman found dead overnight in a vehicle on the city’s west side.
Vanessa Broadnex died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
The woman was shot overnight around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday near Joy and Greenfield roads, Officer Detroit Police Officer Jennifer Moreno said. She was found dead on the 8900 block of Mansfield inside a green 2001 Ford Taurus that had crashed into a home.
But it remains unknown if the woman was shot while driving away from an altercation or if she attempted to flee in her vehicle after sustaining the fatal gunshot wound.
“The shooting possibly took place on the 8900 block of St. Mary’s,” Moreno said of a second crime scene around the block from where the woman was found. “We don’t know if that’s where the shooting took place or where the incident began.”
The woman was found by police after a 911 caller reported the crash, Moreno said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have no suspects at this time, Moreno said.
