Detroit — A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot late Wednesday near the Woodward corridor north of the New Center area, police said.

The shooting occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Kenilworth, Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said.

“Witnesses heard shots and officers found him deceased,” Lewis said.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim Thursday as Jesse Boswell and ruled his death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was visiting his grandmother at the Clinton House Apartments, according to WWJ-AM (950).

He was shot in the parking lot of the apartments, just south of West Chicago Boulevard.

The shooting was captured on video that was shown to the teen’s family, according to reports. Footage showed a suspect hiding in some bushes just prior to the incident.

Family told WWJ it appeared the suspect was waiting for the victim to exit the building.

At least one suspect fled on foot from the scene following the shooting. Police have no description of the suspect or suspects, Lewis said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit police at (313) 267-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
