Detroit police are investigating the death of a 73-year-old man found this week behind a nursing home on the city’s east side.

Construction workers found the man Monday in a clothing-filled, dumpster-like container behind the center in the 1500 block of Cadillac, said Officer Jennifer Moreno, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.

The man, whose name has not been released, is believed to have been a resident of the center, but he apparently was discovered before staff there reported him missing, Moreno said.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy determined the man died from natural causes, Moreno said. But due to how he was found, Detroit police homicide officials are investigating, she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit police homicide unit at (313) 596-2260.
