One man was injured Friday morning when the vehicle he was driving struck a Detroit Fire Department truck on its way to a fire, police said.

The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. at Mount Elliott and East Grand Boulevard on the city’s east side.

A 21-year-old male driver of a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo was northbound on Mount Elliott when he disregarded a red signal, said Detroit Police Officer Nicole Kirkwood. His vehicle struck the passenger side of the fire truck.

The fire truck was in emergency mode at the time of the accident, Kirkwood said. The truck sustained minor damage.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition, police said.

There were no other injuries reported.
