Authorities are on the lookout for three people they say fled from a minivan that struck a Detroit police cruiser Friday night on the city’s north side.

An officer was conducting a traffic stop near Seven Mile and Barlow about 8:15 p.m. when the van sideswiped the scout car, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department.

The officer pursued the vehicle, but the driver stopped. Three men then climbed out and ran away, Donakowski said.

Detroit officers and Michigan State Police searched in the area but couldn’t find them, he said. A description of the group was not available Friday night.

Three females also were inside the van at the time of the collision. They stayed behind and were questioned, Donakowski said.

Anyone with information on the three men who fled is asked to call the Detroit Police Ninth Precinct Criminal Investigation Unit at (313) 596-5940.
