More snow Thursday, but warm-up on way

Metro Detroit commuters could face a slippery drive home during Thursday’s evening rush hour, with up to an inch of snow expected.

Snow flurries are expected to move in by late morning, National Weather Service meteorologist Deb Elliott said.

“The heavier stuff should start around 3-4 p.m.,” Elliott said. “Detroit could get an inch. Most of the accumulation will be in the lower part of Michigan, near the Ohio border; they’ll get up to 2 inches.”

More snow flurries could fall Thursday night, Elliott said. Overnight, the temperatures will drop to as low as 16, she said.

Friday’s forecast is sunnier, but the seesaw weather pattern of the past week is expected to continue.

“Friday looks like a pretty good day; mostly sunny, with a high of 31,” Elliott said. “Clouds will start moving in Friday night, and there’s another chance of snow developing Saturday. We’re looking at a possible mixture of rain and snow. It could be a couple inches, although we should know more later (Thursday.)”

Temperatures are expected to climb next week, reaching the upper 50s on Wednesday, according to the NWS.
