Detroit police are investigating after finding a dead body in a burning car in an alley on the city’s west side, police confirmed Thursday morning.

The body of a black male was found after police responded to a call about 12:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Ash Street, Officer Nicole Kirkwood said.

The caller said she thought she heard someone at her door.

But when police arrived, they found a red 2003 GMC Yukon engulfed in flames in an alley.

The fire department showed up to extinguish the fire, at which point they found the dead body in the driver’s seat. Police don’t know if the man was killed before the fire or as a result of it.
