A 33-year-old Detroit woman was charged Thursday in connection with the traffic death of a man who was hit so hard by the impact that he was thrown over a fence outside the old Tiger Stadium site over the weekend.

Authorities say the woman was driving around 1 a.m. Saturday when she had a collision with another car, which then struck Paul Pesola Jr., 35. The impact of the crash caused Pesola, of Pelkie in the Upper Peninsula, to be thrown over an 8-foot fence around the former baseball stadium. His body was found about 6 a.m. Saturday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medic.

The woman was taken to a hospital and then taken into custody. She was charged with reckless driving causing death and is expected to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Friday, said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

The cause and manner of death is pending by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office but police said it appeared he suffered head trauma.
