Funeral Saturday for Rev. Nicholas Hood Sr.
A funeral has been set for the Rev. Nicholas Hood Sr., who died Sunday at age 92.
The man was remembered as a giant of social justice and a leading figure in political and religious circles. He served on the Detroit City Council almost three decades.
He was “a dedicated servant of his God and of his city and was a true icon of social justice,” said Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.
Public visitation is 12-8 p.m. Friday at Plymouth United Church of Christ at 600 E. Warren Ave., in Detroit, where he began as pastor in 1958 and served until 1984. The funeral is Saturday at the church, according to Swanson Funeral Home.
Interment is at Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit.
