The scores of bicyclists who crossed the city wearing red on Monday night did so for a cause.

The participants in the Red Roll aimed to raise money for the cardiovascular research and education programs through the American Heart Association, according to the website.

“Pedal along with us as we bike ride to fight the nation’s leading killers — heart disease and stroke,” organizers said.

The event, touted as the first of the “slow roll” season, kicked off at Detroit’s Eastern Market and featured local celebrities, a citywide CPR demo as well as giveaways.
