Detroit police suspect a 30-year-old woman was driving drunk Thursday night before crashing on the city’s east side — leaving one dead and two injured.

The woman is believed to have been speeding near Hayes and Linnhurst at about 7 p.m. when her black Chevrolet Impala struck a pole, said Officer Dan Donakowski, Detroit Police Department spokesman.

There were two passengers in the car, but their relationship to the driver or each other was not yet clear, he said. No other cars were involved.

A 66-year-old man was pronounced dead at a hospital. A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized in temporary serious condition, Donakowski said. The driver also was hospitalized Thursday night with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver was placed under arrest since investigators believe she had been intoxicated, Donakowski said. Blood-alcohol results were not available late Thursday.
