Two-car crash in Detroit kills woman
A man is in custody following an early-morning two-car accident that left one person dead on Detroit’s east side.
Investigators believe the 31-year-old suspect’s pickup reached speeds above 100 mph before it crossed the center line near the intersection of Chalmers and Mayfield just after 2 a.m.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
The 2013 Ford F-150 was traveling southbound on Chalmers when it collided with a 2001 Dodge Neon heading north. Behind the wheel was a 26-year-old woman who was transported by emergency crews to a local hospital.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not identified either individual.
The driver of the truck was arrested and faces charges of operating a vehicle while impaired.
