A 67-year-old woman was killed Thursday when she struck a semi-truck on Interstate 75.

Michigan State Police say the woman was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala when she crashed into the back of a truck stopped in the right lane waiting to cross the Ambassador Bridge to Canada.

The woman had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The accident happened at about 7:45 p.m. and caused I-75 northbound to be shut down for two hours.

Authorities say the woman might have been distracted by her cellphone when the accident happened.
