Police are warning Wayne State University students, staff and area residents of an armed robbery early Monday on campus.

Around 1:30 a.m. a 27-year-old woman with no affiliation to the university said she was riding her bike on northbound Cass at West Kirby when she was robbed at gunpoint.

She told police an unknown man got out of a minivan and pushed her off her bike.

“He then took her purse containing her phone, cash, credit cards and keys,” police said in an alert Monday. “The male quickly jumped back into the vehicle, which is believed to have been occupied by another unknown person.”

The vehicle then headed northbound on Cass.

The woman was not hurt. She rode her bike to the Wayne State University Police Department to report the incident.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s armed with a handgun.

The suspect was riding in a gray or silver 2003 Chrysler Town and Country minivan with a Michigan license plate of DGS-6551.

Anyone with information is asked to call Wayne State University Police at (313)577-6064.
