An unidentified young man was found shot dead on the street on Detroit’s northwest side Wednesday morning, police said.

Sgt. Michael Woody of the Detroit Police Department said police got the first calls about the shooting at about 5 a.m. on Vassar, near Chapel. This is east of Lahser and north of Seven Mile.

A man, possibly in his early 20s, was walking down the street when he was gunned down, Woody said. Witnesses in the area heard shots, then saw the man lying on the ground.

The man wore a gray shirt and blue jeans, but did not have identification, Woody said. Police are trying to figure out who the man is and who killed him.
