Detroit police are looking for answers after two 20-somethings were shot, and one was killed, while sitting in a car outside of Bates Academy on the city’s northwest side, Sgt. Michael Woody said.

The shooting took place about 9 p.m. Tuesday night. Bates Academy, which occupies the former Beaubien Middle School building, is on the 19700 block of Wyoming, north of West Outer Drive.

A 22-year-old man was in the driver’s seat of the red Dodge Charger, talking to a 25-year-old female passenger, when an unknown male approached on foot with a brick in his hand. He asked the passenger if she knew someone. The passenger said no.

At that point the man became irate, which made the couple want to leave the area. But before they could, the man produced a gun and started shooting inside the car, hitting both victims.

The male victim, who was shot in the foot and in the buttocks, drove himself and the woman to DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital, but the woman was declared dead on arrival, Woody said.
