Body found wrapped in plastic, carpet identified

A person found wrapped in plastic and rolled into a carpet on Detroit’s west side Monday morning has been ruled a homicide, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner. The victim has been identified as Maurice Varner, 44, according to the medical examiner.
The victim died of “multiple sharp-force and blunt-force trauma,” said Lloyd Jackson, spokesman for the medical examiner’s office.
The body was found at 12:10 a.m. Monday on the 7600 block of Fenkell, and many details remain unknown, including how long Varner has been dead.
