Suspect sought in west Detroit garage theft

Detroit police are seeking tips from the public to find a man accused of breaking into a garage on the city’s west side this month and stealing bikes.

Investigators on Tuesday released video footage showing the man at the garage in the 3300 block of Sherbourne.

Sometime between 10:30 p.m. July 15 and 1 a.m. the next day, he took two bicycles and a hedge clipper from inside then fled, police said.

Authorities described him as an African-American around age 40, about 5-foot-8, weighing 200 pounds.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts or the crime is asked to call the Detroit Police 12th Precinct Detective Unit at (313) 596-1240. Anonymous tips can also be left through Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
