Detroit man, 24, charged with wounding 7-year-old boy

The Detroit News

A 24-year-old Detroit man has been charged in the shooting of a 7-year-old boy this week.

Torrey Craft is charged with assault with intent to murder, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent and felony firearm in connection with the incident Tuesday.

According to authorities, Craft had an argument Monday with male relatives of the mother of his 4-year-old daughter, who refused to let him into their home in the Fairfield Manor housing complex.

The next night, about 10 p.m., Craft was in the 3600 block of Fairfield in the complex’s courtyard area when he saw the male relatives. Authorities allege Craft fired a handgun in their direction and struck the 7-year-old boy, who suffered a groin injury and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Craft is expected to be arraigned after 11 a.m. Saturday in 34th District Court in Romulus.
