Girl, 15, wounded when father’s rifle discharges


A 15-year-old girl suffered life-threatening wounds after her father’s rifle discharged and shot her, Detroit Police officials said.

The incident occurred at 10:45 p.m. Friday in the 13500 block of Glastonbury on the city’s northwest side. It happened after the father heard shots outside the home and removed a rifle from a case, said Officer Nicole Kirkwood, spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department.

“When he went to put the rifle back up, it discharged and struck the girl,” Kirkwood said.

They girl was takento a hospital, where she was listed in temporary serious condition.

It was not clear if alcohol was a factor, Kirkwood said.

The father was not taken into custody but the mother was taken into custody on unrelated charges, Kirkwood said.
