Police: 25 totes of meds stolen at Detroit pharmacy

Less than a minute after a delivery driver walked into a Rite Aid on Detroit’s east-side last week, a silver van pulls up behind his Ford E-150 in the parking lot.

Surveillance footage shows it took nearly as long for someone to seize a major load, investigators said: 25 totes of pharmaceuticals.

The theft was reported at about 9:35 a.m. Aug. 17 in the 17100 block of Harper.

The person who emerged from a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country van somehow gained entry on the Ford’s passenger side and stole the bags of medications, police said in a statement.

“After taking the bags, both suspects flee in an unknown direction,” the release read.

Their van was later recovered in the 9700 block of Wayburn — about two miles away from the pharmacy.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police 5th Precinct at (313) 596-5540. Anonymous tips can also be left through Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
