As the man and woman stood laughing behind a car on Detroit’s west side early one Sunday morning, two people approached from behind.

Within seconds, police say, they became victims of an armed robbery. But it was all caught on camera, and investigators are seeking tips from the public to find the suspects.

The video footage showed the pair walking up to a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old companion as they talked in a lot on the 18300 block of West Eight Mile at about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 14.

One wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and red shorts then is seen pointing a gun at them. The other appears to frisk the 24-year-old man before rummaging in the car.

Police said belongings were stolen but did not offer details Monday.

The suspects fled on foot, heading south on Rosemont.

Anyone with information is asked to call the 8th Precinct Detective Unit at (313) 596-5840. Anonymous tips can also be left through Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
