Detroit police are seeking tips from the public to find a man wanted in a carjacking on the city’s southwest side last week.

A 33-year-old woman was standing outside a silver 2007 Cadillac Escalade with her two daughters near Lyon and Dearborn at about 2:45 p.m. Aug. 21 “when a black male suspect approached, pointed a gun at her and demanded the keys to her vehicle and her purse,” authorities said in a statement.

The woman complied. She and her children, ages 8 and 9, were not injured, police said Monday.

Investigators believe the suspect later used the woman’s bank card at a nearby gas station.

Surveillance images of the man and a full-size white van with a gray design authorities allege is connected to the crime were released Monday.

Anyone who recognizes him, knows his whereabouts or has information is asked to call the Detroit Police Commercial Auto Theft unit at (313) 596-6361 or HEAT at 1-800-242-HEAT. Anonymous tips can also be left through the DPD Connect app.
