An 81-year-old man is in serious condition after being shot and carjacked at a liquor store on Detroit’s west side early Tuesday morning, police said.

The man was found about 1:30 a.m. lying on the ground outside of Big Daddy’s Liquor Store on the 18500 block of Joy Road, complaining of pain in his stomach. Sgt. Michael Woody of the Detroit Police Department said the man suffered a through-and-through wound to both hips.

The victim told police that he was approached by two tall young men, 18 to 22 years old. At least one of the men was armed, Woody said. The suspects allegedly took $700 from the man, along with his vehicle, a gray, four-door 2013 Chevy Cruze.
