A driver was hospitalized Wednesday night after crashing into a school on Detroit’s east side, police said.

The motorist was seen crossing a street in a black van, which struck the East English Village Preparatory Academy building near Cadieux and Warren at about 9 p.m., said Officer Shanelle Williams, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.

It was unclear if anyone else was inside the vehicle at the time, she said. No other injuries were reported.

The driver was hospitalized in stable condition late Wednesday, Williams said.

Other details were not released. Police are investigating what caused the crash.
