Friend of mayor’s son arrested driving Duggan’s car

Mayor Mike Duggan’s office confirmed Thursday a friend of the mayor’s son was pulled over while driving a Duggan family car last week and arrested for an alcohol-related driving offense.

In a statement, the mayor’s office confirmed Patrick Duggan, 23, was a passenger in the family’s Mercury Milan when it was pulled over in Benzie County, west of Traverse City. The vehicle, which has been in the family since 2010, is registered under the mayor’s name, but is not a car he personally uses.

A friend of Patrick Duggan’s was driving the vehicle at the time, the mayor’s office said. The mayor’s son was never accused of any wrongdoing and isn’t mentioned by name in the police report, the statement reads.

A representative for the Benzie County Sheriff's Office said no supervisor was available to comment late Thursday.

At the time of this incident, the mayor was in Detroit attending several of the events associated with the city’s Hydrofest high-speed boat races.
