The right two lanes of Interstate 75 at the River Rouge Bridge will remain closed through Saturday evening after a tanker fire, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The early Friday incident damaged the concrete, officials said.

An issue with the brakes appears to have caused the fire, forcing crews to shut down parts of the freeway.

The incident was reported at 4:50 a.m. at the top of the bridge near Dearborn Street.

Michigan State Police say the tanker transports gasoline but was empty except for residual fuels and vapors at the time of the incident.

Two southbound lanes on the left side of I-75 had reopened by 10:20 a.m.

Authorities say the northbound lanes at Fort and Schaefer were reopened by 7 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
