Suspect sought in attempted carjacking of 80-year-old
Police need tips to track down a suspect wanted for the attempted carjacking of an 80-year-old woman on Detroit’s west side.
The victim was inside her vehicle on the 13400 block of W. 8 Mile at about 2:20 p.m. Thursday when the man approached and tried to pull the woman away, saying “get out,” Detroit police said in a statement.
Video footage authorities released Friday shows the man struggling to force her through the driver’s side door.
But the woman “fought back and the suspect ran off when she started screaming for help,” police said.
The victim was not injured, according to the release.
The suspect is described as an African-American male, 5-foot-11, 300 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, a short afro, full beard and mustache and a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue basketball shorts and red gym shoes.
Anyone who recognizes him, knows his whereabouts or has information is asked to call the Detroit Police Department Commercial Auto Theft at (313) 596-2555 or HEAT at (800) 242-HEAT. Anonymous tips can also be left through the DPD Connect app.
