Detroit police are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found Tuesday.

Officers spotted one person’s remains under a pile of debris near Gaylord and East McNichols at about 11:30 a.m., said Officer Dan Donakowski, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department.

It was unclear how long the corpse, which appeared to be a white male, had been in the area, he said. “The body was decomposing.”

Investigators are working to identify the body and determine a cause of death.

Anyone with tips is asked to call the 11th Precinct at (313) 596-1140.

In another case, officers were called to Barham and Waveney on the city’s east side at about 2:40 p.m. for a report of a person “slumped over near the side of the road,” Donakowski said.

Officers found an African-American man, possibly in his 40s. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has not yet been identified, and an autopsy is expected, Donakowski said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the 5th Precinct Investigative Unit at (313) 596-5540.
