Detroit man arraigned in crash that killed passenger
A 23-year-old Detroit man was arraigned on several charges Wednesday in connection with a fatal crash that killed a 27-year-old male passenger, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Levonte Deshawn Choice appeared in 36th District Court on charges of reckless driving causing death, operating while intoxicated causing death, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license causing death, reckless driving causing serious impairment, operating while intoxicated causing serious impairment and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license causing serious impairment.
According to the prosecutor’s office, around 2:10 a.m. Tuesday Choice was allegedly driving intoxicated while at Ewald Circle and San Juan in Detroit when he struck a tree. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Magistrate Charles Anderson set bond at $100,000 cash/surety bond. Choice returns to court on Oct. 5 for a probable cause conference. The preliminary examination is set for Oct. 11.
