Detroit’s Hip Hop Shop, made famous by shoutouts from Eminem and other local rappers and depicted in the movie “8 Mile,” was the scene of a fatal shooting Monday afternoon, police said.

As the 41-year-old storeowner was opening its doors just before 6 p.m. on the 15700 block of West Seven Mile, a 26-year-old man allegedly approached him and said “run your pockets,” and threatened to hit him with a brick, according to police.

Police say the storeowner pulled out a gun and fired four rounds, striking the man multiple times. He died at the scene, outside of the building, police said.

Police arrested the storeowner and he remains in custody, said Michael Woody, director of media relations for the Detroit Police Department.

On Wednesday, DPD spokeswoman Kenyetta Hebron said a warrant packet will be submitted Wednesday to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
