Witness sought in fatal Detroit hit-and-run
Detroit police are seeking a possible witness to a hit-and-run that left a woman dead Thursday evening on the city’s west side.
Witnesses called 911 at about 8 p.m. to report that the victim was struck and run over more than once near West McNichols and Winston, said officer Jennifer Moreno, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.
Investigators believe the woman, who has not been named, was crossing the street when a vehicle hit her.
“The victim fell to the ground and was struck by several other vehicles,” police said Friday. None remained at the scene.
The impact left the woman’s body dismembered, Moreno said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office was expected to identify the victim.
Meanwhile, to help gather more clues about the drivers involved, authorities on Friday released photos of a person they described as a possible witness.
Anyone who recognizes him or has information related to the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Fatal Squad at (313) 596-2280 or (313) 596-1616. Anonymous tips can also be left through the DPD Connect app, or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
