It started out as a common, if not increasing interaction: a woman walks up to a passerby in Detroit one afternoon recently, begging for money.

But police said she took her quest for cash to the extreme. She knocked down then robbed her 77-year-old target.

The suspect spotted the man at about 12:15 p.m. Oct. 10 in the 13500 block of Schoolcraft on the city’s west side, approached then “knocked him to the ground,” investigators said in a statement. He had minor injuries, police said.

Once he was down, the woman rummaged through the man’s pockets and grabbed his wallet, according to the release.

To generate tips from the public to identify the assailant, authorities released on Wednesday a photo of the suspect.

She is described as African-American, 30-40 years old, 5-foot-8, 190 pounds, with a medium length black afro.

Anyone who recognizes the woman, knows her whereabouts or has information on the crime is asked to call the Detroit Police Department at (313) 596-5240. Anonymous tips can also be left through the DPD Connect app or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
