Christmas tree giveaway Saturday at Detroit McDonald’s

Looking for a free Christmas tree to kick off holiday festivities?

You’re in luck. From 1-3 p.m. Saturday, 500 are slated to be distributed outside the McDonald’s at 1321 Eight Mile in Detroit.

Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, and there’s a limit of one tree per family while supplies last, company representatives said in a statement.

“Those wishing to receive a tree must park their car, enter the McDonald’s to receive a voucher and be able to attach the tree to their car themselves,” the release said.

The holiday giveaway is part of a push from Detroit McDonald’s restaurant owners to brighten the holiday for local families.

Earlier Saturday, a private event will be held, during which 500 trees are to be presented to families pre-selected by Metro Detroit churches.

Those members of local churches also have the opportunity to pick up their tree, along with a stand and a McDonald’s Arch Card as well as a gift card to Meijer, officials said.

“On behalf of my fellow McDonald’s restaurant owners, we’re delighted to share this meaningful holiday moment with families in Detroit by gifting 1,000 Christmas trees,” said Jon Campbell, Detroit-area McDonald’s restaurant owner. “We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and healthy new year.”
